“Take this fun and simple on-line color IQ test and learn how you see color.” This is kind of the coolest test I’ve ever done.
Wavves: Green Eyes, King of the Beach, 2010
My, my own friends
Hate me
But I don’t give a shit
Fly high
Will I fly high? Maybe
Soar high, soar right through it
Guyz could I be more obsessed with this song right now? I just saw Wavves last night and Je suis un peu obsédée maintenant. OBSESSED.
Starfucker: Pop Song, The Arctic Sausage, 2008.
I’m a total latecomer to these guys, but how good is this track?
Your skin is slippin’ off
the seaweed and urchins feed on your bones.
your body is a board,
a rusty bag of nails
lyin’ by the sea.
Your skin is slippin’ off
the seaweed and urchins
feed on your bones.
Joy Division: Twenty-Four Hours, Peel Sessions, 1979.
Soooooo goooooood
So this is permanence, love’s shattered pride
What once was innocence, turned on its side
A cloud hangs over me, marks every move
Deep in the memory, of what once was love
If you want to know what kind of college I am attending, read this article on Gawker. I was particularly fond of this bit:
“The weekend partying routine is a general wander around campus from party to party punctuated by several stops at SMOG, where half the crowd smokes and drinks outside and talks about leaving. (Leaving becomes more and more appealing as the temperature drops.) Those actually inside stand statue-still, facing the stage, absorbing whatever faux-sophisticated bit of masturbation is currently being performed.”
I swear I’m on a hipster island in the middle of the ocean and can’t escape.
I am finding solace in my latest discovery of Bard’s Shakespeer database. Oh my god. Well, it’s pretty good. I couldn’t find a lot of what I was looking for (Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, Bikini Kill), but I did get a lot. And FAST. What a nice change. I just added to my collection: Joy Division: Peel Sessions; Charlie Parker: Masterworks 1946-1947; The Mummies: You Must Fight to Live on the Planet of the Apes 7”; The Who: Tommy (I… admit, I didn’t have this yet); The Vaselines: The Way of the Vaselines (I had this at home, but somehow not on my laptop); Starfucker: The Arctic Sausage; The Kinks: Something Else by the Kinks (not sure why I missed this one up to now; they’re one of my favorite bands at this point); and finally, Autolux: Transit Transit, their latest album that I am very excited to listen to a lot (I have been waiting six years). Favorites?
Spoon: Me and the Bean, Girls Can Tell (Merge), 2001.
Do you remember when you were small?
How everybody would seem so tall
I am your shadow in the dark
I have your blood inside my heart
Spoon is without a doubt one of my all-time favorites. They are one of the few bands I have listened to fairly consistently for at least five years. They have yet to disappoint me. And I have yet to see them live.
My goal is to eventually be able to look at a photo or advertisement or watch a film and estimate the year of its creation, accurate within 3-5 years (maybe 3 years if it’s post-1960, 5 if it’s before).
Thanks to solsticefield and eleanorapplecore. I don’t know what’s up, I seem to be perpetually stuck at 137 followers. I must be losing some followers, because I know I’m still gaining some!
Don’t you want me, baby?
Sorry, I’m listening to The Human League. But it did seem approp’.
